History and Geography

History is taught at St John’s so that children develop an awareness of the past.

Through teaching about people, events and changes within living memory and beyond they relate to the passing of time.

We focus particularly on historical events, people and places in or near our locality.

Geography is taught at St John’s so children develop knowledge about the world.

They are taught about the UK and the continents and oceans of the world to develop their locational knowledge.

They compare areas of the UK with a contrasting non-European country to develop place knowledge.

They learn about weather patterns and hot and cold areas of the world and use geographical vocabulary to refer to physical and human features.
