In Reception the children work on lots of hands on practical Maths activities, giving them the basis on which to build and develop their skills on entering Year 1 and the National Curriculum.

Since September 2016 St John’s has adopted teaching the ‘Maths No Problem’ scheme in Key Stage 1.  This scheme is based upon the highly successful teaching methods developed in Singapore.

Maths is taught daily at school. The children use a wide range of resources to support their learning and then apply their new knowledge and understanding to solve problems. They work with mixed ability partners and cover a range of topics from number and place value, to shapes, patterns, measure and capacity.
