Term 1

Japanese fans

In term 1 we have been getting to grips with a new way of learning maths, Singapore style! We have learned more about addition, subtraction and number bonds to 10. We have been practicing forming our numbers by learning helpful rhymes.

Our topic this term was ‘Me and My World’, where we learned about ourselves and the world around us. In Science, we learned about the different parts of our body and our five senses. We even made a life size body picture with labels! In Geography, we went on a walk around the school, then worked together to make our own maps! Last but not least, we learned about a man from Gillingham called Will Adams, who travelled to Japan and became a Samurai. Afterwards, we made our own fans with Japanese symbols on.

What else has been happening this term?

Squirrel Class have had a very busy term settling into Year 1. We know the routines of the classroom, we have learnt where everything is kept and together, we have established our class rules, so that our classroom is a happy and safe place to learn.

Highlights of the term include meeting Fred the Frog who helps us every morning with our Read Write Inc Phonics and raising money by doing a fun obstacle course. The children also did a fantastic job learning and thinking of actions to our Harvest song ‘What a Wonderful World’, which they sang at Church at the end of term.
