Term 3

The Great Fire of London

This term we travelled back in time to London in 1666 to learn about The Great Fire of London.  We discovered that one of the reasons we know what happened was due to a man called Samuel Pepys who wrote about the fire in his diary.  We pretended to be journalists and wrote newspaper articles about the event.  We also designed and built Tudor houses and made silhouette paintings of the London skyline when the fire was raging.

In maths, we have been continuing to learn how to work out addition and subtraction using column methods. We have used these skills to solve word problems.  In science, we have been experimenting by finding out how far we can make a ping pong ball travel by using the air in different sized bottles.

What else happened this Term?

We celebrated 'Round the World' week.  A professional dancer came into school and taught each class a dance from a different culture; we learnt how to flamenco dance like many Spanish people do.  We also had a visit from Chartwells who made food from lots of different cultures including China which is the country we learnt about.  We wrote our names in Mandarin and learnt to count and add numbers in Mandarin too.  We painted beautiful cherry blossom paintings and made dragon fortune chatterboxes.  We really enjoyed showing all our parents and carers all the excitng things we did during the week.
